Another Cock and Bull Story on TripAdvisor

Cock & Bull Restaurant

Yet another case of false and defamatory reviews on TripAdvisor; lies that blacken the reputation of a good business and that TripAdvisor has failed even to respond to, never mind remove.

In a review of the aptly named “Cock and Bull” restaurant, the reviewer claimed to have seen the restaurant manager of the Cock and Bull filling branded water bottles with tap water, a claim that the restaurant says is completely untrue.

“Untold damage is done from this review and so many others that are just not true. The whole industry is held over a barrel because of TripAdvisor, and it’s about time we did something about that,” said Mandy Davidson, the director of the Cock & Bull.

The restaurant has received many messages of support from other industry professionals.

  1. I agree with you, Brian. There are increasing instances of customers threatening to post bad reviews if they don’t get their unreasonable way. I had one threat this week from a couple who booked a room for 2 people then turned up with a child they had not mentioned. We informed them they should have told us about their sudden plan to bring their grandchild with them (they were only staying one night en route to a campsite where they were meeting up with the boy’s parents) and we would have told them it was not possible to add another bed in that room (it is too small). When they insisted I foolishly relented a little and said we would consider making an exception, but only if they paid for us making up a bed and breakfast for an additional person. They baulked at this and threatened to “spread bad words” about our hospitality. I gave them back their deposit and told them to leave. We’ll see what happens.

  2. That is the problem of dealing in the public domain in whatever business you are in. You are open to abuse through review type websites, I suppose all you can do is respond and defend yourself. Trouble is, as everyone knows it can take years to build a good reputation and minutes for it to be destroyed by a thoughtless or untrue comment.
